Senior in Action
In a nutshell
This project aims to improve the living conditions of older people experiencing poverty and social isolation through practical interventions in their homes, as well as repair services, transport assistance, and material support.
The context
Some older adults live in deteriorated housing conditions due to a lack of financial resources, support, or the ability to maintain their homes. This situation can lead to increased isolation, reduced independence, and a decline in quality of life.
At the same time, many seniors wish to remain active and engaged in society but lack opportunities to put their skills to use and maintain social connections.
The project
Led by Compagnons Dépanneurs / C.Dienst, the project offers a range of practical services designed to improve beneficiaries’ living environments.
These services include:
- light renovation work (painting, wallpapering, minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs, etc.);
- repair and refurbishment of furniture, household items, and clothing;
- transport and moving services;
- provision of essential goods (furniture, household appliances, clothing, kitchenware, etc.).
Most of these activities are carried out by committed senior volunteers, for whom the project provides a valuable opportunity for social participation and personal fulfilment.
Impact
The project supports approximately 1,000 people (more than 450 households) each year in the Brussels region.
It contributes to:
- improving housing conditions for beneficiaries;
- strengthening their independence and daily well-being;
- supporting independent living at home;
- creating social connections, both for beneficiaries and for the seniors involved in the project.
By providing a more suitable living environment, the project also promotes better social inclusion and overall well-being.
