🚐 The Caravan: bringing people together to combat loneliness among older adults
Social isolation remains one of the major challenges faced by many older people. To reach them where they live, the Solidarity Caravan sets up in the heart of Brussels neighbourhoods, creating a welcoming, accessible and friendly space. Over a coffee, a board game or a simple conversation, seniors can connect freely with partner organisations and benefit from attentive support and listening.
Led by a multidisciplinary team working in the fields of social inclusion, mobility, housing, home assistance and leisure activities, the Caravan also helps guide older adults towards services that best meet their needs. This local approach fosters trust, strengthens community ties and helps identify situations of vulnerability that often remain unnoticed.
During its visit to Forest, more than 600 people discovered the initiative, and 153 seniors stopped by to enjoy a moment of conversation and companionship. Much more than a simple meeting point, the Caravan serves as a powerful tool for raising awareness about loneliness among older adults and offers a concrete way to rebuild social connections within local communities.
