An innovative project is a new way of acting to improve the daily lives of elderly people who are vulnerable or isolated. It involves rethinking existing solutions, experimenting with new approaches, and creating initiatives that are more humane, supportive, and sustainable.

Through collaboration between different stakeholders — citizens, associations, institutions, and volunteers — these projects aim to break isolation, strengthen social connections, and promote the well-being of older adults.

Mutual Support Network in Molenbeek

In a nutshell

The Mutual Support Network in Molenbeek project, led by Accolage, aims to combat loneliness among older adults by mobilising a local solidarity network and providing support tailored to their needs.

The context

Many older people living at home experience social isolation and face difficulties accessing the support they need. Some do not make use of existing services due to a lack of information, trust, or support.

In this context, neighbourhood networks and local community ties play a crucial role in maintaining social connections and preventing situations of vulnerability.

The project

Accolage develops a local support network that connects older adults with residents, community organisations, and professionals.

The project offers:

  • a neighbourhood solidarity network (visits, shopping assistance, accompaniment, social presence);
  • personalised support based on each person’s needs and wishes;
  • guidance towards appropriate services (healthcare, administrative assistance, activities, etc.);
  • long-term follow-up to ensure continuous and adapted support.

In parallel, the project organises meetings and community activities to strengthen relationships between residents and encourage local solidarity.

Impact

The project helps to:

  • reduce social isolation among older adults;
  • strengthen neighbourhood solidarity;
  • facilitate access to existing support and services;
  • improve well-being and support independent living at home.

By mobilising local resources, the project contributes to building a more caring and supportive environment for older people.
